Traditional fireplace at the Prince of Wales

Since around 1842

A little piece of Criccieth history.

The pub is thought to date from around 1842, shortly after the future Edward VII became Prince of Wales. It stands at the corner of Union Row and Corporation Terrace, beside the route of the old turnpike road. The first known landlord was David Cadwalader; after his death in 1858, his widow Ann ran the pub until around 1880. Inside, a beam marked “Certified for five seamen” is believed to have come from the schooner Owen Morris, wrecked at Black Rock in 1907.
